In a wonderfully exciting sprint at the finish line in Santa Rosa, Rock Racing's Francisco Mancebo of Spain held off two contenders to win Stage 1 of the Amgen Tour of California. Perseverance personified and exemplified on a day most would rather spend in front of a warm fire.
